Tribunal Fees - what you need to know

In one of the most significant rulings affecting employment law for years, it was held on 26th July by the Supreme Court, the country's top court, that employment tribunal fees were unlawful.

To take a claim for unfair dismissal through to its conclusion, for example, would have cost a minimum of £1,200, although there were fee exemptions in place for claimants in receipt of certain benefits, or on low incomes.

Care sector given deadline to resolve pay issues

Businesses and other organisations in the care sector have been given until 2nd October to resolve issues around how they pay staff for "sleep-in" duties.

There will also be a partial amnesty on fines that can be levied for underpayment of the national minimum wage (NMW), with the government promising that no fines will be levied for any underpayments prior to 26th July 2017.
